This portrait is again also a part of my "red-series". In this series, I try to eleminated the amount of noise, - mostly present in every situation - by using a "red-filter" and closing in the most important parts of the painting. The result gives a more precize focus on the essence of the picture.
What is more important is that, as a painter, I now more or less determine what your attention is drawn to. People simply look at other people for certain characteristics. With this 'Red-wash' I partially deprive you of that possibility: the transparency of red-wash allows viewing the whole picture, but by leaving lanes open I can - it turns out - influence the perception.
This lady is turned into her own world en tends to isolate herself from the outside. As a person we all experience the fact that we like to isolate ourself from everyone. That's a mechanism of survival as well.
