MK24 Xtra completed training in year 2019-2020 until Corona ended the classes.
In the following year I wanted to learn other things first and had already been working on portrait and modeling for a year. I now have a better grasp of these matters: two summer courses at the Classical Academy Groningen certainly helped.
However, it is far away for me and not an option to visit on a regular basis. The WackersAcademie is not attractive to me at the moment.
I am and remain a painter. For the time being I have little affinity with spatial objects, although I do enjoy the work of others very much. Maybe that will come.
MK24 Xtra second year can be a valuable year, provided that it helps development in a broader sense; the world of the figurative and even scarier, realism is - as it always turns out - a finite road after all. I often get stuck on the fact that the shown performance has little room for the viewer to take further steps in one's own imagination; realism shows what it is.
In the years 1988 - 2000 I made a lot of abstract work. I now return to it to be able to be freer again, to have many more possibilities to offer the viewer (and the maker of course) more space to put his/her own interpretation in the shown.
My abstractions made in the period 1987-1988 were too figurative, the (very large canvases in the years 1999-2005) were much broader and more expressive. The same approach followed in 2009, which unfortunately led to too many puzzle pictures and canvases that - apparently - were not interesting enough, so an expo held in Amsterdam (Walls) did not deliver the hoped-for results.
Now after 14 years I come back to the abstract. To get 'loose' again, I've been busy with only the color black and at most a different shade. The central question here is how you can make shapes without them getting a spatial (object-like) status. One can get lost in the choice of form and in the movement too quickly - and I often see others doing this too - as soon as one strives for an 'abstraction'.
The first lessons of year 1 Xtra dealt with the theme "The Power of Black". It is a pity that this was not discussed further at the time. I have that in hand at the moment.
